While meeting the
demands of day-to-day life, many people find the “little things”
slip away. I recently read an essay about an elderly man
reflecting on his life. If he could do it all over again, he
wrote, I would focus more on the little things and less on
the big things. In his old age, he realized the “big
things” were comprised of all the “little things” he was too
busy to be attentive to each day. In this workbook I will guide you
through ten separate activities to help you reclaim daily joy.
It wasn’t long ago
that scientific journals published about 100 studies on sadness
for every one study on happiness. Fortunately a shift has
occurred and researchers are now asking: What makes people
happy? Interestingly, research is conclusive that people aren’t
very good at predicting what will make them happy. When asked
what would make a person happy, common answers include luxury,
money, influence, beauty-none of which match the new findings of
what actually brings happiness.
So what does make
people happy? Why is happiness so elusive-here one moment and
gone the next? How do we recapture magic and happiness in our
lives? I set out to answer that question in 2007 and create a
“Happiness Toolbox” I could return to when I felt the need to
give my life a happiness tune-up. In this Mini I’ll share the
latest scientific findings on what brings happiness and 10
practices to live these findings.
